If you have an M2, there’s a decent chance you bought it with the track in mind. Since it is the smallest, lightest M car available, and it’s rear-wheel drive and available with a manual gearbox, it’s a perfect candidate to spend extra time on a track. Now, BMW is releasing the M Performance Track Kit for the M2 that tilts decidedly more towards making the M2 into a pure track car.

The track kit has a number of features that the stock M2 just doesn’t have aimed at honing and focusing the already strong core product into something that is a weapon at track days, one that’ll make that 911 owners quiver. The changes are pretty comprehensive to the aero and handling package, a way to give the driver more confidence on track. Like the F82 M4 GTS, it has a manually adjustable splitter, one that can be extended for track use. That works with wheel arch diffusers and a scoop under the engine oil cooler. There are also diveplanes, or as BMW says, “aero flicks,” to provide more downforce.

You might think that the rear wing looks familiar, and that’s because you have seen it before. The swan-neck design is what you see on the M4 GT4 and GT3, just applied to a smaller, roadgoing, setting. The wing can be set in race, which moves it back 50 mm to the rear, making it more effective, or left alone, making it okay for everyday use on the road. There’s also a brake light in the wing, which is just cool.

The suspension is much different, with threaded four way adjustable coilovers, adjustable support bearings, and a special, road-legal, motorsport damper system. You can adjust height by 20 mm front and rear. There are no engine modifications, and it’s not yet confirmed if the U.S. will receive the M2 CS exhaust that the pack has in Europe. Pricing in the U.S. also isn’t confirmed yet, but in Germany it costs €23,500 plus tax. Deliveries are expected to begin in Q3.
