Season 7 of the ABB Formula E series, originally scheduled to begin on January 16–17 in Santiago, Chile, will now open with a double-header in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on February 26–27.

The Santiago event was canceled because of restrictions on travel To Chile from the U.K. that resulted from the late December appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in Britain. Six Formula E teams are based in the U.K.

Saudi Arabia’s borders are closed at this time, although exceptions were made to allow participants to travel to the country for the Dakar Rally, which began on January 2.

The BMW i Andretti team is running two iFE.21s in the series, one for returning racer Max Günther, and another for newcomer to the team Jake Dennis. BMW announced in December that Season 7 would be automaker’s last in the series, although Andretti plans to continue, possibly with BMW powertrains.—Brian Morgan
