Colin Turkington in the #1 Team BMW/West Surrey Racing 330i M Sport took the pole and led the first race in the British Touring Car Championship event at Knockhill from flag to flag, reviving his title hopes after a few difficult weekends and giving WSR its 100th win in the series.
Turkington, the series’ defending champion, went on to finish second in race two, leading until he slid wide on the final lap and falling to second behind the Infiniti Q50 of Ash Sutton. Turkington scored points again in race three with an eighth-place finish in a race won by Hyundai’s Tom Ingram.
Turkington’s teammate Stephen Jelley scored points in all three races, finishing eleventh in race one and ninth in race two and then finishing on the podium in third place in race three.
Tom Oliphant. The third Team BMW racer, had a difficult weekend, getting crashed out of race one and then finishing seventeenth and fourteenth in races two and three.
Cicely Motorsport 330i M Sport racer Adam Morgan finished thirteenth in race one, sixteenth in race two, and thirteenth in race three. His teammate Tom Chilton finished twelfth in race one, 25th in race two, and 23rd in race three.
Going into the August 29 BTCC event at Thruxton, Turkington is third in drivers’ points behind Sutton and Ingram, and BMW leads manufacturers’ points.—Brian Morgan
