I’d argue that the best looking modern BMWs was the 6 Series Gran Coupe. Its overall shape, profile, body lines, kidney grilles, and just about everything else are just about perfect. It’s also one of the best driving BMWs of its time, has a cool interior, and seating for four. However, it got even better when the folks at Alpina got their paws on it. That car was called the Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe and, aside from its obnoxiously long name, was easily one of the coolest BMWs this century. And one just sold on Bring a Trailer for a price lower than every new car on sale in America right now.
Someone is going home with an Alpina B6 for just $21,500, which is a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the brand new Hyundai Venue, currently the cheapest car in America. Instead of a econobox crossover with a gutless engine, this new owner has a leather-line Autobahn missile. The B6 packs a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that’s been tickled by Alpina, so it makes 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, and gets paired with an eight-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive. Car and Driver clocked its 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds back in its day, and it has a top speed of 198 mph.

Also, just look at it. The B6 is a gorgeous, sleek sedan with some of the best wheels in the business. Its cabin is gorgeously appointed, with black leather chairs with beautiful wood trim. Sitting in the Alpina B6 is to sit in the lap of luxury. It’s also from a time without absurd screens and unnecessary tech, so while it has an infotainment system and modern tech, it doesn’t feel reliant on it. It’s properly old-school.
This specific model has 96,000 miles on it, which isn’t insignificant. Repair bills for an Alpina B6 won’t be cheap and I shutter to think what even something simple might cost to fix. It’s also a boring color for an Alpina. Space Grey Metallic is a cool color, but an Alpina should only come in one of two colors: Alpina Blue or Alpina Green. Even with the wrong color and high mileage, though, this will be a car worth keeping around for many years to come. It’s a special car, that’s better looking than basically everything BMW’s made since 2000 and it drives better than most, too. At this price, it’s a steal.
