In October 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck the southeastern United States with devastating force, causing widespread destruction across multiple states, from Florida to North Carolina. The damage was particularly severe in the mountainous areas of Western North Carolina, where entire communities were either destroyed or severely impacted by torrential rains and catastrophic flooding. In the aftermath, thousands of families were displaced, without basic necessities such as food, clean water, shelter, and medical supplies. The rebuilding and recovery efforts are ongoing and are expected to continue for an extended period.

Recognizing the situation’s urgency, the National Capital Chapter (NCC) of the BMW CCA’s South Atlantic Region immediately mobilized to support those affected by this unprecedented disaster. The chapter has a long history of community engagement and service, and members felt it was essential to act swiftly to help the victims of these powerful storms. In partnership with the Salvation Army and National Capital Area Command, the NCC launched a dedicated online donation campaign to direct 100% of the funds to relief efforts in the hardest-hit regions.

Since the campaign’s inception on October 14, the NCC has raised nearly $4,000. While this may seem modest at first glance, it is important to understand the tangible impact of every contribution. For every $1.67 donated, a hot meal is provided to a victim, first responder, or disaster recovery worker in the affected area. Thanks to your generosity, over 2,300 meals have been provided to those struggling to recover and survive in the aftermath.

The National Capital Chapter’s relief efforts will continue through 2024. We encourage everyone who can contribute to this worthy cause. All donations are tax-deductible, and donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes via email.

We also ask that you share this opportunity with your friends, family, and colleagues to help extend the reach of our fundraising efforts. Every dollar counts, and the more people we can involve, the more lives we can touch. For those who have donated or volunteered, thank you for your generosity and for supporting the ongoing recovery efforts.
