For many BMW enthusiasts, the Valentine One radar detector is held in the highest esteem, helping many an enthusiast enjoy their Ultimate Driving Machines more than they would otherwise. It is with considerable sadness that we report the passing of the innovator and creator of the Valentine One, Michael D. Valentine.
The gentleman who has graced the back cover of the BMW CCA’s magazines for a generation, showcasing Valentine Research and the venerable Valentine One, passed away on September 16, 2024 at the age 74.
A long-time supporter of car enthusiasts and car clubs, Mike showed his support in many ways. Most visible to BMW CCA members was his smiling face on the back cover of every Roundel and BimmerLife issue, as well as his company’s sponsorship of BimmerLife Online and the weekly BimmerLife eNewsletter.
We couldn’t ask for a better partner or better support for the Club’s media efforts.
Mike had many friends in the BMW CCA, Lonny and Lou Ann Shirk among them. Lou Ann, past BMW CCA Executive Vice President, said, “Mike was so enthusiastic about cars and shared many of his experiences with us. We will cherish these moments for a lifetime and miss him deeply. His passing leaves a huge impact on our car community of friends.”
We share those thoughts and will miss Mike and his automotive enthusiasm. According to the memorial page, a visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at the Covenant First Presbyterian Church, 717 Elm St. in Cincinnati, Ohio. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mike’s memory to the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) or The Matthew Mangine Jr. One Shot Foundation at www.oneshot.life.
If you have fond memories of Mike and the Valentine One, please share them with Mike’s family and community of friends on his memorial page at Cincinnati.com or in the comments section of this article.
