BMW M4 GT3 Steering Wheel

Sim racing has experienced strong growth over the last two years, driven in large part by the pandemic. Even car manufacturers and professional racers took to sim racing when races were being canceled in 2020. Sim racing is expected to continue growing, and for the first time ever, you can buy a sim racing wheel that’s the same one used in a real racing car, in this case the new BMW M4 GT3.

Fanatec is a manufacturer for sim racing products and designed the new M4 GT3 steering wheel with help from BMW Motorsport. The wheels are identical to the point where you can literally take the wheel off your sim equipment and use it in the race car. The wheel itself is very high-tech, with twelve front-facing buttons with LED backlighting, two quick-access rear buttons, dual-action (push/pull) magnetic gear shifter paddles, and a one-inch OLED display for telemetry data.

Despite a price of around $1,400, the wheel has proven to be very popular so far. Pre-ordering went live on December 20 and the first batch sold out completely within minutes of the website landing page going live. The wheel is compatible with PC and PlayStation devices, but not the Xbox. The M4 GT3 was released as a sim racing car download in the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform late last year, which is the official game of the GT World Challenge series.
