Asked how he originally found out about the BMW CCA, he says, “I originally discovered the CCA from discussions with my other friends who own M cars. What made me want to join was when I brought my car to a local chapter car meet at Erhard BMW in Bloomfield Hills. The attendees were either friends of mine or extremely kind and enthused BMW lovers. After a full morning talking BMWs, M cars, and E34s, I decided I should probably join!”
Tell us more about your E34 M5! What’s the story behind it? “I had been casually looking for an E34 M5 that wasn’t white for about a year. Finally, the perfect driver-condition car popped up with working SLS and a full history. I bought the car sight-unseen and flew to San Francisco, where the owner picked me up from the airport in the car. After the exchange and plenty of thank-yous, I drove the car all night on an empty California highway to my brother’s house in LA. Nothing like watching the sunrise at speed! It was a dream drive for sure. The car is a 1991 M5 with a 1/1990 build date, so it has the ellipsoid headlights, 3.91 diff, breadbasket rear console, and gray interior versus light gray. The car is all original except for a full Supersprint exhaust and an Auto Solutions short-shifter. It’s still going strong at 165,000 miles. It’s finished in Schwarz II (668) with gray interior, power leather seats, and a power moonroof. It has a full service history going back to 1998 and was a California car all its life until I brought it to Michigan. She runs like a dream and the S38B36 makes the most amazing noises!” said Gary.
