BMW’s new G30 5-Series cars go on sale starting in February 2017. This 7th generation of the 5-Series replaces the older, slightly more conservative design of the F10 that was introduced in the 2010 model. This new executive-class vehicle is built on the same modular platform as the recently updated BMW 7-Series full-sized vehicles.
Updated Styles and Materials
The new design updates styling elements, incorporates carbon-fiber, aluminum, and magnesium elements to reduce weight. Sleeker aerodynamics can be aided by new signature kidney grilles on the front which can open and close.
Hybridized
The new BMW 5-Series will also be available as a plug-in hybrid model, the 530e iPerformance, which will debut in Europe in March 2017. The hybrid 530e iPerformance is expected to be able to travel a little under 30 miles on a full electric charge before needing the gasoline engine to run.
Awards
The new G30 5-Series has already started racking up awards, including EyesOnDesign Best Designed User Experience Award at the North American International Auto Show. The BMW 5-Series Saloon has also won the What Car? Car of the Year award for 2017, as well as the Best Luxury car.
