Hans Joachim Stuck was the son of legendary Auto Union driver Hans Stuck. A stalwart of the factory 3.0 CSL campaigns in Europe and in North America, he first raced in 1969, and soon mastered endurance races, with two overall wins at Le Mans, three at the Nürburgring, and three at Sebring (including in the 3.0 CSL in 1975). Known for his sideways driving style and skill in the rain, he was very successful in European touring cars, including the BMW 3.0 CSL. Stuck, who was the 1985 Sports Car World Champion, started in 74 Formula 1 races, earning 29 points and two podiums. A well-known practical joker, “Strietzel,” as he is nicknamed, is also skilled at yodeling. Hans joins us from Europe.
Brian Redman was an integral part of the BMW team in North America and was sometimes paired with the late Peter Gregg. These days, Redman is known for his stories, his presence in vintage racing, and his Targa 66 Club track events. He won 77 professional races including the Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours in the BMW CSL. Redman won three Formula 5000 single-seater championships and contested fifteen Word Championship Grand Prix. He retired from professional racing in 1989 at the age of 52, after a long career that included drives for Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, Aston Martin, Cooper, Williams, McLaren, Lola, and Chevron.
Sam Posey needs little introduction. The versatile American racer was one of the mainstays of BMW’s North American competition effort in 1975 and 1976. He was also one of only three drivers to ever race the Alexander Calder 3.0 CSL “Art Car” when it ran at Le Mans in 1975. The Renaissance man of motorsports, in his long and varied career, Sam drove in Formula 5000, Trans Am, Formula 1, Endurance Racing, IMSA, Can-Am, and NASCAR. His wonderful and poetic introductions of race coverage at ABC, NBC, Speed TV, and Fox span 40 years. An architect, artist, journalist, and speaker, he has written several books, including Mudge Pond Express.
To moderate the panel discussion, television commentator Justin Bell joins us. Son of five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell, Justin Bell is an accomplished driver and Le Mans winner himself, Justin has known several of our panelists most of his life and is as comfortable behind the microphone as he is behind the wheel.
