The upcoming electric M3, or iM3, should be a pretty outrageous car. With four electric motors and what promises to be an insane amount of power, it will make the gas version of the next M3 look slow. However, it will still be an EV, which means it won’t sound like a gas car. Or will it?
In a video of the electric M3’s continuing development, BMW went over how it’ll create a new sound for the EV M3. Rather than making a simulated fake combustion soundtrack, the idea is to take some of Ms greatest engines and use elements of them, combined with the traditional electric motor sounds, to create a new “soundscape.”
That soundscape includes three of M’s greatest engines of the modern era. The S85 5.0 V-10 from the E60 M5 and E63 M6, the S65 V-8, here in it’s special 4.4-liter M3 GTS spec, and the 3.0-liter twin-turbo S55, as used in the M4 GTS.
These sounds combine to form what will be the sound of the iM3. It promises to be a rather exciting car.
