The DTM series held the second race weekend of their 2025 season at the Lausitzring in Germany this past weekend of May 24-25, 2025 , and Schubert Motorsport driver René Rast was on the podium in both races.
In race one, Rast qualified fifth in the #33 M4 GT3 EVO, with teammate Marco Wittmann in seventh in the #11 car. Rast was less than two-tenths of a second off the pole time of Lucas Auer in a Mercedes-AMG and the top seventeen cars were within a half-second of each other. Rast worked his way forward thanks in large part to fast pit work by the Schubert team and finished on the podium in third, behind race winner Auer and Maro Engel in second, both in Mercedes-AMG cars. Wittman also had a solid race, finishing in fifth.
Wittmann had a strong qualifying performance for race two, putting in a fast lap that put him into second on the grid behind polesitter Jack Aitken in a Ferrari. Rast was further off the pace in the second qualifying, ending up in eighth. Wittmann’s hopes for a podium finish were dashed when his car experienced ABS problems, which he fought back from to finish in eighth.
Rast, on the other hand, worked his way from eighth up into the lead of the race in the closing laps, thanks once again to fast pit stops. He wasn’t able to hold off the Ferrari of Jack Aitken but held on to finish second, just .045 seconds ahead of third place Mercedes-AMG driver Jules Gounon. “It was a good points haul, and the team did a great job throughout the weekend,” said Rast. “Especially with the pit stops; I think today we were only able to take the lead because of the pit stops. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite have the pace of the Ferrari; my tires just faded too early again. It’s a shame that Marco’s race went the way it did. He could have been in contention for the win today. That would have been even better for the team.”
Rast now has three podiums in the first four races, as he also finished third in race to at Oschersleben in late April. He sits sixth in driver points, and Wittmann is in ninth. Schubert Motorsport is third in team points. The next race for DTM is at Zandvoort in Holland on June 6th-8th. Get more information at dtm.com.
