The Schubert Motorsport team will return to the DTM series with a pair of M4 GT3 EVOs, which is one less car than BMW had last year.
Returning to the driving lineup in DTM for 2025 are works drivers Marco Wittmann and René Rast, with Wittmann piloting the #11 M4 GT3 and Rast in the #33 car. Sheldon van der Linde drove in DTM last year but is now focused on season-long campaigns in the M Hybrid V8 in both IMSA and FIA WEC. BMW M Motorsport hopes to improve from 2024, where Rast won twice and Wittmann won once. Rast finished fourth in the drivers’ championship last year, while Wittmann finished twelfth. Schubert Motorsport won the team championship in 2024.
Rast is hoping for a return to form when he won previous DTM championships while driving for Audi. “My goal for the upcoming DTM season is clear: I want to win my fourth drivers’ title,” he said. “Of course, we also want to be at the forefront in the team standings, but ultimately, winning the drivers’ championship is of the highest importance – naturally for me personally, but also for the team. I haven’t driven the BMW M4 GT3 EVO yet, but based on everything I’ve heard from my fellow drivers so far, I’m hoping for a leap forward.”
One equalizing challenge all the teams will face is getting used to a new tire compound. Pirelli remains the sole tire supplier for the series in 2025 but will debut a new generation tire for GT3 cars, replacing the P Zero DHF tire. Pirelli is also the sole tire supplier to the ADAC GT Masters series, where BMW will have two entries in 2025.
The DTM season opens on April 25th-27th at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany. The calendar has sixteen total races, with two per event weekend. Most races are in Germany, but the series will compete in Holland (Zandvoort) and Austria (Red Bull Ring).
