Each year in verdant Hot Springs, North Carolina, just outside Asheville, more than 600 BMW enthusiasts make the pilgrimage to an incredible gathering of friends new and old at the largest gathering of vintage BMWs in North America: the Vintage. This year’s main event will be held May 19, 2018, and for those who haven’t been, event founder Scott Sturdy would say that the Vintage is “a gathering, not a car show.” It’s a home for everything from driver E30s to concours 2002s to V12- and six-speed-swapped E34 Tourings, to bagged Bavarias and turbocharged E24s.

But more than the incredible variety of cars (all E34 and earlier), the Vintage is a place for friends to reunite, drive, chat, and talk about everything that makes us BMW enthusiasts—and this year it’s set to be bigger than ever, with registration maxed out at 650 cars from up and down the East Coast.

Already signed up? Don’t forget to get your tickets to The Icon: 50 Years Of The 2002, the BMW CCA Foundation’s latest exhibition. This will be part of the itinerary of the Vintage, with an open house at the foundation on Friday, May 18. For others, there will be scenic driving routes provided through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.

Although registration has filled, the Vintage is a free spectator event as well for Saturday’s show, and we’d certainly recommend it for anyone in the area.—David Rose
