We have been announcing that every Friday, Shell will be awarding a BMW CCA member a $25 Shell gas card. But we need to apologize—that wasn’t entirely correct. During February, Shell is awarding the selected member $50 in Shell gas cards each Friday! The first recipient of $50 in Shell gas cards is Everglades Chapter member Dirk de Groen—also the President of the BMW Classic Car Club, for his Instagram post of a number of classic BMWs, including his 1937 328, captured with his wife, Alexandra, in the passenger seat.
This Shell station must have thought it was having its own throwback Thursday when the BMW Classic Car Club’s Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Driving Tour that Dirk organized pulled in on their Roads to Monterey event in 2016. This wasn’t a coincidence; Dirk has been a Shell Fuel Rewards member for quite some time, so in addition to these $50 in Shell gas cards he’ll receive, he routinely saves money on each gallon at Shell. But it turns out Dirk is going to pass along this reward, donating the winnings to the BMW Classic Car Club.
Dirk is clearly a significant BMW fan, tracing back to his father and grandfather who both drove BMWs. Dirk’s first cars were BMWs in the seventies—first a 1600-2 and then a 2000 Touring Tii. He now counts among his seventeen BMWs classics like a 1957 507, a 1961 700 Sport Coupe, a 1970 2800 CS, and a 1934 315/1 currently in restoration.
When asked what he enjoys most about the BMW CCA, Dirk said, “I’ve got to say the people who make up the club, including the staff, the members and the volunteers. National activities are fun, too, especially those that are related to classic BMWs. There are nice articles in Roundel Magazine, especially now that Jackie [Jouret] is a contributor.”
Shell has provided $150 in Shell gas cards this year already and has at least another $150 coming this month!
