Auto Technic Racing has a very successful history of racing in the SRO GT4 America series with BMW and will expand their racing program into the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series for 2025.
The New Milford, Connecticut based team has purchased a new M4 GT4 EVO that will be entered in the series for Steven McAleer and Austin Krainz, with Austin’s father Roland joining them for the four-hour enduros at Daytona and Mid-Ohio.
Auto Technic Racing won the SRO GT4 America Silver class championship in 2023 with Zac Anderson driving an M4 GT4 and finished third in the 2024 season with Anderson and Colin Garrett in an M4 GT4. The team also competed in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge championship in 2024, with Mark Brummond driving an M4 GT4.
McAleer is one of the most accomplished racers in the US, winning the SRO GT World Challenge Pro class championship in 2023 driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R with Eric Figueiras. In 2024, he finished as runner-up in the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class championship, driving a Porshe 718 Cayman GT4 RS with Trent Hindman.
McAleer is looking forward to driving with Auto Technic in 2025. “Super excited to be back with BMW and really excited to be with Auto Technic Racing,” he said. “I’ve been watching these guys for years. I am ecstatic to run with Austin and Roland Krainz. Even though Austin is new to IMSA racing, I think the package we have is primed for a championship, so the benchmark is set high. Thanks to JAG New York for the opportunity.”
Both Austin and Roland Krainz will also be transitioning from a Porsche to a BMW, having driven together in a 718 Cayman GT4 RS in the SRO GT4 America championship in 2024 with the RS1 team, which McAleer also drove for in 2024. The Krainz duo had a best finish of sixth in the GT4 America race at Road America. Roland Krainz will also be driving an M4 GT4 EVO for Auto Technic in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge championship.
Auto Technic Racing has yet to announce if they also plan to return to the SRO GT4 America championship in 2025.
