The DTM series raced at the Nurburgring in Germany this past weekend of August 9-10, 2025, and BMW team Schubert Motorsport came away with a one-two finish in race two. The win for René Rast was his second of the season and the 30th of his career in the series.

The race weekend didn’t start as well as it ended. In race one on Saturday, Marco Wittmann was the fastest of the two Schubert Motorsport M4 GT3 EVOs but was down in fourteenth, and teammate Rene Rast was in seventeenth. As it has been almost all season, the lap times in DTM are incredibly close. In qualifying for race one, Wittmann was only a half-second off the pole time of Jack Aitken in a Ferrari but was in fourteenth. All 24 cars in the field were within less than a second of each other.

Both BMW drivers were strong in race one, with Wittmann making up nine positions to finish in fifth in the #11 M4 GT3 EVO. Rast also put in a great performance to move from seventeenth up into seventh by the end of the race in the #33 M4 GT3 EVO, but a post-race time penalty for contact during the race dropped him to fourteenth. The race was won by pole-sitter Jack Aitken in a Ferrari 296 GT3.

For race two, Rast qualified in seventh and was followed by Wittmann in eighth, with the McLaren driven by Ben Dörr on the pole. Rast was the star of the show once the green flag flew, moving up three positions on the first lap and taking the lead by lap six, after which he pulled ahead from the rest of the field. “I already noticed during the formation lap that my M4 GT3 EVO felt fantastic on the track and had incredible grip,” said Rast. “As a result, I was able to attack right from the start of the race and secure a surprisingly commanding victory. I had hoped for a podium, but I didn’t expect the win.”

Wittmann also put in another strong performance, moving from eighth to second to make it a BMW one-two, with flawless pit stops by the Schubert Motorsport team also contributing to the success. “The team did an outstanding job with the strategy and pit stops, which were the keys to this success,” said Wittmann. “Especially after the zero points at my home event at the Norisring, this weekend comes as a real relief.”

There are only six races left in the DTM season, with two races each at the Sachsenring, the Red Bull Ring and Hockenheim. With his win on Sunday, Rast is now fourth in driver points and just twenty points behind the leader.

Schubert Motorsport is second in the team standings, but Team Principal Torsten Schubert knows the rest of the year will be a challenge. “Of course, we are absolutely thrilled about the one-two victory on Sunday, but unfortunately, on Saturday, we didn’t have the performance we needed and left important points on the table,” he said. “On Sunday, both drivers were very happy with the cars and were able to work their way from strong starting positions all the way to the top. Looking at the championship, we scored a lot of points here, but we now need to keep fighting. The Sachsenring is coming up next, and it’s a track where we’ve struggled in the past.”
