BMW Car Club enthusiasts have long known of the appeal of BMW’s wagon offerings, dubbed the Touring models. But few of these long-roof ultimate driving machines have been offered to American buyers. This year, however, BMW released the BMW M5 Touring and has apparently been surprised at how quickly it’s selling. Particularly in comparison to it’s sedan sibling.

Regardless of that backstory, Neubauer told BMW Blog that the original plan was to build more sedans than wagons. But sales show the Touring is more popular than the sedan for the M5 powerhouse. That alone is a bit remarkable. But when you factor in the starting price is over $125,000, the sales numbers show that the BMW M5 Touring has tapped an eager market.
