Every year in December BMW M Motorsport awards the BMW Sport Trophy to the privateer team and driver who have the most success racing BMWs throughout the year. For the second year in a row, Turner Motorsport won the Sport Trophy as the top privateer BMW team in 2024, and Turner driver Justin Rothberg won the Sport Trophy as the top BMW driver in 2024 (Will Turner and Justin Rothberg are shown in top photo with their trophies).
Turner Motorsport racked up points during the year in both the SRO GT World Challenge and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with M4 GT3s. Turner drivers Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg won the GT World Challenge championship and Rothberg finished second in the SRO GT America series, finishing just one point behind winner Johnny O’Connell. Turner also finished second in the IMSA GTD class championship with Foley, Patrick Gallagher and Jake Walker. Additionally, the team raced two cars in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series and had five top five finishes there.
Winning the Sport Trophy was a great way to end a very successful season for one of the top BMW race teams in the world and the most prolific in BMW racing history. “What a year! Not only did we set the record for the most professional races with BMW worldwide, campaigning seven BMWs across five series, but we won our 10th championship AND now this: the BMW M Sports Team and Driver Trophies,” said team owner Will Turner. “I am so proud of my team, my drivers and of course, thankful to BMW Motorsport for making this all possible with their incredible race cars.”
Turner Motorsport has already announced that we will see Foley and Rothberg back to defend their championship in the SRO GT World Challenge championship in 2025, and Rothberg will once again compete in the SRO GT America championship, both with the new M4 GT3 EVO. Turner has yet to announce IMSA plans for 2025.
