If you recall, the recent Mini Multitone Edition was the brand’s 68th special edition. Imagine my surprise when only a few weeks later, Mini announced yet another special edition. With five other special editions already launched this year–-the Untold, the Untamed, the Resolute, the Patt Moss, and the Multitone—whoever maintains Mini’s special edition website web page really has their work cut out for them. It seems that Mini has a fever and the only cure is more cowbell, er, special editions.
Well, there’s a reason for this 69th special edition. Mini is celebrating twenty years in the U.S. and as such, they’ve created the Mini 20 Years Edition. Two decades already? Wow, time flies. It seems like only yesterday that I was helping a friend fully disassemble the entire front of his new supercharged Mini Cooper S to install a different supercharger pulley (more boost!)—those were very tightly packaged.
The Mini 20 Years Edition will be produced as a 2023 Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door and will arrive on dealership lots this month. They’ll be available in three colors: Chili Red, Pepper White, and Island Blue–-because America (and because these colors are shared with the British Flag). Regardless of the primary exterior color, all will receive a red, white, and blue stripe on the driver’s side of the hood, accompanied by a star on the passenger side. Piano black trim goes well with the 17” Tentacle Spoke black wheels. The exterior is finished off with silver mirror caps matching a silver roof, which comes standard with roof rails and a panoramic moonroof.
Turning their attention towards the interior, Mini fitted the 20 Years Edition with Carbon Black leatherette sports seats, a Nappa leather steering wheel with special edition badging. The piano black trim carries from the exterior to the interior and is complemented with an anthracite headliner. All special editions will come with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
To go along with Mini’s recent Pokémon announcement, if you’re trying to “collect them all”, you can add Mini’s latest special edition to your warehouse storage facility for $36,315 (plus an additional $850 for destination and handling). At this rate I imagine we’ll be back here for number 70 sometime in October—the Mini Halloween Edition is right around the corner. —Mike Bevels
