“It’s a 1991 318is with nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer,” said Leo. “I have owned it since 2006. I am the second owner and have never owned any car for this long. As far as performance modifications go, I have a Dinan chip and a K&N drop-in filter. Several years ago I went through the entire car and replaced every bushing from the motor mounts to the rear differential and sub frame. The car also received Bilstein shocks and H&R sport springs. The steering rack has been rebuilt and the car is maintained regularly with a giant folder full of service records dating back to 1991. I never thought I would enjoy this car more and more every year, but that has been the case. It brings a great level of driving joy even in this modern era.”
Asked how he originally discovered the BMW CCA, Leo said, “I was on one of the early BMW car forums in 2000 called BMWplanet, there were members that were also part of the BMW CCA who used to post regularly. They would often post pictures at events like track days or Oktoberfest. The primary reason I wanted to join the club was the variety of events that were scheduled throughout the year. It was different than just going to a meet in a parking lot like we used to do in the early days. I would say one of my favorite things about being a member is the camaraderie that comes when you get to know other members and connect with them because we have a like-minded passion for our cars.”
