Congratulations to this week’s Shell Fill-Up Friday winner, Tejas Chapter member Joey Nielsen (IG @ugosplodes), who won a $50 Shell fuel card thanks to this rad picture of his E30.
“The photo was taken on the drive into Radwood Austin, which was an incredible event,” says Joey. “I’m not sure if it was a blessing or a curse, but I wasn’t alive to see the fashion trends of the 1980s. However, I definitely appreciate the loud colors that were part of that time period, and love the loud music just as much. Of course since it was a Radwood event, we had to go shopping for some vintage clothing to pay homage to an era that we did not get to experience firsthand. Not pictured is the incredibly rad blonde mullet wig that I wore during the show.”
When asked how he discovered the club, Joey says, “Originally I joined the club to get a discount on parts, but didn’t realize that there were unique subsets of the CCA in each region. I’ve been living in and around Austin, Texas, for the last four years, which placed me into the Tejas Chapter. I have to admit that I haven’t used the parts discount very often, but I’m regularly active in our chapter’s events. I like to think of myself as our chapter’s unofficial photographer. My favorite part of the CCA so far is the community that it has built, and the unique personalities reflected in each of its chapters.”
So, tell us more about your E30! “The pictured E30 is special to me. I bought it to incentivize myself to reach some financial goals while still owning a vehicle that was fun to drive,” said Joey. “I’m the second owner, and it is currently sitting just above 104,000 miles. I bought the car sight-unseen from the original owner (with 89,000 on the clock!) and made a road trip out of the purchase. I flew to Atlanta, Georgia, with my friend, Neil, and my girlfriend, Rachel. We drove the car nearly 1,200 miles from Atlanta, to Enterprise, Alabama, to New Orleans, and finally home to Austin. I daily-drove the little E30 for over a year, with very few issues. Below is a photo from my first five minutes with the car, and a photo of my very tired flight crew during a 7:00 a.m. driver change.”
