Check Out the Millionth M Car and Take a Quick Look at the Electric M3

On September 18th, at 4:35 pm local time in Munich, BMW hit a pretty wild milestone: the one millionth M car was built. And this is real M cars, not M Performance or any other off-shoot of M with a badge but not the numbers to back it up. Coming 40 years after the first E30 M3 rolled off the line in Munich, the legend has now adorned one million cars. That’s quite the benchmark.

This car, the millionth M car, is a G80 M3 Competition xDrive finished in Fire Orange III. That’s a thoroughly modern car, but one that still speaks to the heritage of BMW and M. But at the end of the video, Frank van Meel, M’s CEO, and Peter Weber, the director of BMW’s Munich plant, show off something from the future: the electric M3.

The car is still in camo, but it looks a lot like the M Concept Neue Klasse that’s been making the rounds the last few months. It’s not as wide and the styling is a bit more subdued, but it does seem true to the concept. We’ll see the electric M3 without camouflage soon enough, but until then, this brief look at the quad-motor beast will have to satiate us.
