BMW EV Recall Issue Fixable With Over-The-Air Update

BMW recently announced the recall of over 70,000 vehicles that may have electric drive motor software that could shut down the high-voltage system, causing a loss of drive power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The vehicles affected include the 2022-2024 i4, 2025 i4 eDrive35, 2025 i4 eDrive40, 2022-2024 iX, 2023-2024 i7, and 2024 i5.

The software may shut down the system, increasing the risk of crashes.

If you own or drive one of the vehicles, the fix will be applied, free of charge, via an over-the-air update or at your local BMW dealership. Owners should receive notification letters, which should be mailed by August 5, 2025.

Owners can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7411 and reference recall number 25V395. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
