BMW M Motorsport Introduces M4 GT4 EVO

The G82 generation of the M4 GT4 has been an unabashed success since it was introduced for the 2023 racing season. Here in the U.S., the car took racing teams to multiple championships and wins in the SRO GT4 America championship, as well as the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and VP Racing SportsCar Challenge series. It also won in Europe in the GT4 European Series and won classes in the Nürburgring 24 Hour race. Despite its success, BMW M Motorsport has already come out with an “EVO” update to the car that will be competing in 2025.

Introduced on the weekend of the Spa 24 Hour race in Belgium, the new M4 GT4 EVO updates are focused on improving reliability and drivability, with final direction taken after cooperation from customer teams. The front splitter has been revised to improve long-term durability and the entire front end has been made easier to maintain. The car also has reinforced wheel bearings on the rear axle and new front flicks (which are the little dive plane/mini spoiler pieces used to improve downforce on the front).

Drivability has also been improved, with drivers now having the option to temporarily deactivate the traction control with a button on the steering wheel, which should help to optimize lap times. That upgrade in particular was suggested by development drivers Jens Klingmann, Max Hesse and Dan Harper and is a great option for situations where the car is being shared with an amateur driver and a pro driver. In design, the new M4 GT4 EVO adopts the LCI update from the M4 road car, with new front headlights and rear taillights.

The price for the M4 GT4 EVO complete package (which includes the car) is around $237,400, but teams can also buy a kit to upgrade existing cars for around $17,300. The cars and upgrade packages are expected to be delivered to teams during the fourth quarter of 2024. “We look back with pride on the first two years of the BMW M4 GT4, which has won races and titles from the start – and in the hands of many different teams around the world,” said works driver Jens Klingmann. “We have an excellent base, but there is always room to make a good car even better. We have succeeded in doing this with the BMW M4 GT4 EVO, in my view. Durability and drivability are noticeably optimized by the new splitter and by an even more finely adjustable traction control. I hope, therefore, that we will be able to celebrate even more victories and titles from next season.” —David Haueter
