BMW XMs Are Rolling Off The Assembly Line In Spartanburg

BMW XMs are rolling off the assembly line at Plant Spartanburg. If you’re just catching up on this new model, the XM is a unique plugin-hybrid performance vehicle from BMW M—the first since the M1. President and CEO of BMW Manufacturing Dr. Robert Engelhorn says, “We are excited to add the first-ever BMW XM to our plant’s portfolio. The modern, future-oriented design and powerful performance of the BMW XM has generated a lot of enthusiasm.”

There has been “enthusiasm” for the XM, but not all of it has been positive. The styling of the XM is a polarizing topic for fans and critics of the new model. Those that have seen the new XM at BMW CCA HQ during the M Anniversary Celebration have hinted that it’s best seen in person.

As Plant Spartanburg is the “center of competence for X models”, the XM is sharing the assembly line with BMW’s other large SUV offerings, the X7, X6, and X5. The XMs are scheduled to arrive at dealers in the spring of 2023, with key markets being the United States, China, and the Middle East. —Mike Bevels
