Wittmann Finishes On DTM Podium At The Nürburgring

Marco Wittmann in the #11 Walkenhorst Motorsport M6 GT3 followed his August 8 win at Zolder with a third-place finish in the Sunday, August 22 DTM race at the Nürburgring. He had placed fifth on Saturday, just ahead of the M6 GT3 of Rowe Racing’s Sheldon van der Linde.

On Sunday, Rowe’s Timo Glock finished seventh, scoring his first points in the DTM season. His teammate van der Linde ran as high as second, but retired with a mechanical problem. Kelvin van der Linde won the Saturday race for Audi, while Alex Albon won on Sunday for Ferrari.

FK Performance Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 racer Ben Green won the Saturday race in the DTM Trophy Series, finishing just ahead of Michael Schrey in the Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport M4 GT4. On Sunday, Green and Schrey finished seventh and eighth in a race won by Mercedes’ Marcel Marchewicz. Schrey had finished fourth on the circuit, but a time penalty demoted him to eighth. Going into the series’ next round at Spielberg, Green is second in points to Mercedes racer William Tregurtha.

Wins in the two M2 Cup races went to Louis Henkefend and Nicolas Hancke.

DTM, DTM Trophy, and the M2 Cup series run next on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on September 3–5.—Brian Morgan
