BMW Motorsport announced on October 8 that two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann will join the three-car M4 DTM team that will contest the Super GT x DTM Dream Race on November 22–24 on the Fuji Circuit in Japan. Wittmann will race along with Alessandro Zanardi and Kamui Kobayashi, who have been added to the roster over the last two weeks.

Cars from the Japanese Super GT series and DTM have adopted a common set of technical regulations, but there are still differences between the cars driven by the race formats and rules of the two series. Three cars from the Super GT series ran at the DTM season finale in Hockenheim on October 5–6. The dream race at Fuji represents an additional step in coordination of the two series. DTM cars from Audi and BMW will run there alongside Super GT cars from Honda, Nissan, and Lexus. BMW Team RBM, the DTM team headed by Bert Mampaey, will run the three-car BMW team in Japan.

BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt said, “Having finished the 2019 DTM season in third place, Marco Wittmann now completes our ‘Dream Team’ for the ‘Dream Race.’ Marco is the most successful BMW DTM driver of recent years and is therefore the ideal ambassador to represent our DTM program in Japan. We now have a strong driver line-up, with Alex Zanardi, Kamui Kobayashi and Marco. The journey to Japan is a trip into the unknown and an adventure for all of us. However, BMW Team RBM is an experienced DTM team that also knows all about the challenges posed by races in other countries. We are very well prepared for Fuji. The ‘Dream Race’ will be a fantastic event and we are all really looking forward to it.”—Brian Morgan
