The famous southern California Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is happening this week, and as they did last year, BMW is running a social-media promotion featuring the BMW i brand—with a special twist. This year, the i8 coupe and the i3S that BMW has brought to Coachella feature liveries designed by Portugal. The Man frontman and album cover artist John Gourley.
Anyone who has seen Portugal. The Man live—yes, the name includes the period, which drives Satch crazy—is familiar with Gourley’s artistic prowess, as his designs are incorporated heavily into the live performance. This makes the tie-in a particularly great opportunity for BMW fans, as we get to experience a fresh new art-car design on the already-striking canvas of two BMW i models.
Coachella opened April 12, and runs through April 22. As an official partner of the festival, BMW i has set up two event spaces during the event, and their colorful automotive artwork will be on display throughout the event. Fans are encouraged to use #roadtocoachella if they spot the cars, and we look forward to seeing plenty of Instagram-filtered images of the pair.—David Rose
