What is The Piston Foundation?
The Piston Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity helping young people acquire the education and hands-on training to build a career in the collector car industry. The Foundation provides trade school scholarships, supports shops and aspiring technicians with apprenticeships, and advocates for skilled trade careers in automotive restoration. The Piston Foundation was launched in 2021 with the mission to bring more young people into the collector car industry and help today’s craftspeople pass on their skills to a new and diverse generation of technicians who are building rewarding careers in the trades and services that fuel the passion of 25-million American car enthusiasts.
What is a Piston Fund Scholarship?
The Piston Fund is a post-secondary education scholarship for individuals with a strong interest in a career involving collector car restoration. The scholarships provide tuition assistance to aspiring auto technicians who are pursuing a vocational-technical degree or certification from an automotive-technology program.
How much are scholarship awards?
Scholarship awards are up to $5,000 for an academic year, for undergraduate study only. Students may apply in each scholarship period they are eligible. A student may receive a scholarship award up to two times.
Scholarship Details
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of their demonstrated interest in a skilled trade career in collector car restoration and their related experience, as communicated through a personal statement and video essay. Their academic record, letters of recommendation, and financial need, also contribute to the selection of scholarship recipients.
- Scholarships are awarded yearly. Winners are notified in May.
- The application period opens January 1, 2023.
- The deadline for completed applications is May 31, 2023.
- Selected recipients will be notified in July 2023.
- Funds will be disbursed in August 2023.
