Two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann will drive a Walkenhorst M6 GT3 in the new GT3-based DTM series.

Wittmann says, “I’m really looking forward to be driving with Walkenhorst Motorsport in the DTM 2021. There are certainly some new challenges to overcome for us, including using the BMW M6 GT3 in sprint race format. Nevertheless, we as a team will give everything to ensure that the project is successful. Anyone who knows me knows how important the DTM is for me and it means even more that I will be competing again in a new constellation in 2021.”

Walkenhorst had announced in February that it would participate in the series (it will be with one M6 GT3, not two as reported earlier—Walkenhorst’s second DTM car is an M4 GT4 running in the support series).

Rowe Racing will also participate with a pair of M6 GT3s for Sheldon van der Linde and Timo Glock.

The first DTM tests in advance of the June 19–20 season opener at Monza were run at Hockenheim on April 7–8. Mercedes dominated the session, setting the fastest times on both days. Wittmann was the quickest BMW runner, setting the seventh fastest time on the first day and the twelfth quickest on the second.
