COVID-19 restrictions continue to impact motorsport calendars. The organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans moved their 2021 race from its traditional June date to August 21–22 to ensure that spectators can attend.
A number of IMSA competitors run at Le Mans, and the IMSA Virginia International Raceway event was scheduled for August 20–22. As such, the VIR event was rescheduled to October 9, the original Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta weekend, and Petit Le Mans was rescheduled to November 13. The Michelin Pilot Challenge races scheduled for both weekends will move along with the IMSA WeatherTech Series races.
