Congratulations to this week’s Garage Goals winner, Great Plains and 2002 Forever Chapter member Jeff Davis! Jeff has won $25 gift cards from Shop BMW CCA and Griot’s Garage thanks to this picture of his garage featuring an X7, E46 330i ZHP convertible, and 2002!
“I fell in love with BMW in high school when I went to Germany (Villigen-Schwenningen) as part of my school’s foreign exchange program and my host family had a 6 Series coupe,” said Jeff. “That car on the autobahn sealed the deal for me. Also, a good friend’s dad had a nice E30 before that. I’ve been a long-term member of the BMW CCA and have continually had at least one BMW since my first new 2001 325i, followed by a 318ti. I’ve also owned a couple E90s (first one was an ‘accidental’ win on eBay, then had to exchange that one to swap the automatic for a manual), an E53 X5, the ZHP, an E71 X6M, and 1976 2002. I have one of the last manual transmission E93 convertibles waiting at the port. Don’t get me started about how disappointed I am that it’s not an Individual build. I really hate the COVID. I haven’t really been that active with the local chapter, but love reading through Roundel on a monthly basis.”
“I’ve definitely been spending more time at home, but not necessarily more time in the garage. I’m fortunate enough to work for a company that’s doing quite well during these times, so I’ve been busy with work and balancing that with the kids being home (admittedly, my wife still handles the bulk of the duties). The 2002 could be considered a COVID project though. I picked it up on February 29 of this year from the original owner! I found it on Facebook Marketplace in a small town about 100 miles or so from Omaha—actually in Wisner, Nebraska, but the better story is that I drove through Beemer, Nebraska to get it (you may have seen the photo in last month’s Roundel, so it’s already pretty famous). It was well cared for by the original owner and he did a lot of nice upgrades, including a five-speed swap, piano-top pistons, Stahl headers, and Recaro seats. It’s mostly rust free and hasn’t been too much of a project, other than needing a good cleaning (a bit of a barn find). I removed the diving board bumpers and have been following Rob Siegel’s columns very closely for upkeep and maintenance. I could almost say that I blame him for the purchase.”
“The other interesting part of the photo is that the X7 is actually a loaner from the dealer (Onyx Automotive) while my X6 was getting its AC looked at. I previously had some poor experiences with the local dealer, but had a chance to talk with the new management and gave them a chance on the most recent service. I Always look forward to trying out a new BMW, and Jake Koch didn’t disappoint with the X7 loaner. It’s definitely a lot larger, and is definitely a BMW—rides nice and luxurious!”
As always, thank you, Jeff, for your support of the club—and for your participation in our BMW CCA Garage Goals giveaway on Instagram.
