Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Races Canceled For 2020

PVGP2002

While many series will be resuming competition in July, the PVGP Historics at Pitt Race and the vintage race weekend in Schenley Park, the two events that bookend the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in July, will not run this year. PVGP Executive Director Dan DelBianco stated “We have explored every avenue for staging our traditional races and car shows in Schenley Park along with our ten-days of Race Week events, but it is just not possible to proceed under current circumstances. To provide outlets for eager car enthusiasts, we plan to create smaller events this year to raise funds for our charities. I would like to thank our fans and sponsors for their support and patience in these challenging times. We look forward to hosting a full slate of events next year to carry on this great tradition.” More information on the organization’s 2020 plans appears here.

The Tire Rack BMW CCA Club Racing series, which typically runs at Pitt Race, was not slated to be there this year in any case because of a conflict with the New Jersey Chapter’s Summit Point event, also scheduled for the July 18–19 weekend. Early in the year, the Tire Rack Series announced its intention to return to Pitt Race in 2021. The series is also scheduled to run a time trial at Pitt Race on September 14–16 this year.

The Schenley Park vintage race weekend always attracts a large contingent of BMW vintage racers. The weekend is the occasion for the Allegheny Chapter’s corral in the park, a much-anticipated event for BMW CCA members. For many years the Allegheny Chapter has hosted the corral and has been an active participant in PVGP’s charitable funding raising effort. There’s no doubt that the chapter will return to the park in 2021.—Brian Morgan
