Enjoy Summer With This Stunning Droptop E24

I’m not ashamed to admit that I haven’t been a BMW fanatic for nearly as long as most of my readers. However, one car that I have always carried a torch for is the E24 6 Series. While I’d say that I’ve only been a BMW enthusiast since my mid-twenties, I’ve loved the E24 since childhood.

While I don’t own an E24 of my own, I’m a member of a few E24-specific Facebook groups. Like a junkie, I need my fix—and that craving can only be satisfied by seeing photos of E24s belonging to other lucky individuals.

This particular car caught my eye, and my attention, this past week.

Shared in a group named BMW E24 “The Shark”, I’m confident that this unique 635CSi would grab anyone’s attention. Owned by one Dietmar Blömer of Dusseldorf, Germany, it might be one of the most unique E24s I’ve ever seen. According to the owner, this car was converted in Sweden back in 1992.

While I’ve seen a few E24s converted into convertibles before (including Griff’s car from Back to the Future Part II) I haven’t seen many that were this well-executed. While there are no photos with the top up, with the top down, it looks absolutely stunning. Dietmar states that this was a one-off build, and no others quite like it exist.

With the top stowed, we get an incredible view of the bright red leather interior. While the car was originally built with a honey tan interior, it was recently reupholstered in this dramatic and highly era-appropriate color.

The rich red interior pairs nicely with the bright blue metallic exterior. I adore this color combination, as it’s unusual without being ostentatious—a perfect fit for a BMW. In fact, the metallic blue color is so subtle that you may not notice the fender flares, evocative of an E30 M3.

What do you think of this custom E24 convertible?—Cam VanDerHorst
