This BMW Pro Mod Drag Car Runs the Quarter Mile in 6.51 Seconds

I’ve made some waves recently by posting about domestic V8 swaps in BMWs and vice-versa. Today, I’m continuing that theme by sharing with you the fastest BMW drag car in the world.

BMWs are known less for their impressive horsepower and more for their handling and balance. To some, using a BMW exclusively as a drag race car would be a waste. However, BMWs being the jack—of—all—trades that they are, they can excel at going fast in a straight line, too.

Budler Motorsport, out of South Africa, has built an E92 M3—based Pro Mod drag car that can run in the six—second range in the quarter mile. Best of all, it’s BMW—powered.

1320video has the sound and the fury, while DragZine has the specs. Based off of an E34 M5 S38 inline six, Budler and FullRace Engineering designed and built a custom billet aluminum engine block. Just two have been produced, and both have called this car home. Feeding the thoroughly modified S38 is a 98mm Precision turbocharger.

Earlier this year, the team at Budler loaded the car onto a boat and traveled over 8,000 miles from South Africa to Maryland International Raceway to participate in the Import vs. Domestic World Cup Finals.

When the dust had settled, the Budler Pro Mod BMW ran a best time of 6.51 with a trap speed over 216 miles per hour. After getting bumped in the second round, they plan on taking the lessons they learned at this year’s event and coming back for 2019. Are low sixes in the future for this beast of a BMW?
