Marco Wittmann, driving the #11 BMW M4 DTM, won the Sunday DTM race on the Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany; it was Wittmann’s eleventh career DTM win, but his first victory in his hometown race.

Wittmann had finished third on Saturday in a race won by Mercedes’ Edoardo Mortara. Several other BMW drivers in that race finished in the points; Philipp Eng was fifth, Spengler was sixth, Joel Eriksson was ninth, and Glock was tenth.

On Sunday, Wittmann moved up from seventh on the grid to take the win. Two more BMW racers finished in the top ten: Bruno Spengler was fourth and Timo Glock was tenth. Glock battled with Mercedes’ Gary Paffett during the race; Paffett rear-ended him at one point, but Glock was able to continue and finish in the points.

Despite scoring points in both races, Glock fell out of the lead to fourth in DTM driver standings behind Paffett—who finished second in Race One—Mortara, and Wittmann.

BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt said, “This is the first time that Marco Wittmann has triumphed at his home race. After our historic wins last year, this is another particularly special success for us at the same venue. Seeing the emotions displayed by Marco, the spectators and the team really sent shivers down my spine. It was our 80th DTM win, and the eighth here at the Norisring. Congratulations to Marco and the whole BMW Team RMG for an absolutely outstanding performance; it was a remarkable race, with him moving up from seventh position to first. Bruno Spengler also did a very good job in fourth. Timo Glock managed to pick up a point with a damaged car after Gary Paffett leaned in a bit too often. Nonetheless, it is a great result, of course. Now we can celebrate.”
